I was just diagnosed with moderate obstructive sleep apnea. I have had sleep paralysis amongst other symptoms such as: tremor, twitches, numbness, etc. since 2002. My doc thinks the sleep apnea may be causing these problems. Anyone else have these problems?
What else can the sleep deprivation casue (long term) besides heart issues?
Thanks.
Ryan

- I have twitches and tremors. When I am drifting off to sleep, I will have twitches. Sometimes it is my hands or feet. Sometimes. my arms will just flop up and down. There have been times when my entire body twitches. The tremors are particularly in my fingers, especially my thumbs. I have read that sleep apnea can lead to the heart problems that you mentioned. The four long-term effects listed in the pamphlet that I have: high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke and depression. I found it interesting that the pulmonologist told me that it would probably be extremely difficult for me to lose weight with untreated sleep apnea. There is research to substantiate his statement. Sorry, I don't have any web addresses. :o#1; Mon, 17 Dec 2007 12:23:00 GMT

- Hey,
I have these problems as well, except I don't have sleep apnea. It takes me 5 hours to enter REM sleep where most people enter it after 90 minutes (I had a sleep study done). Therefore, I am sleep deprived as well. My psychiatrist recommended a med for restless leg syndrome. I tried it but it didn't help, in fact it kept me up in the middle of the night. Ask you doc if a restless leg syndrome pill might help.
